Back in the U.S.A

Ahhhhh....it's good to be home..well almost home. At least we are in the United States (Battleground Washington).

I missed my Target stores : )

Olympic Biathlon

Thursday, we took the 6:00 am shuttle up to the Olympic Park in Whistler. Beautiful scenery. I think I took the most photos here.

This was an extremely long day for us. The women's Biathlon didn't start until 10:20 and the bus ride there took 3 hours. After the women's 15 km, we ate at the food booth there and decided to head back early. The Norwegians won the gold.

I am amazed on how fast one can go cross country skiing. After being lucky enough to watch the sport, I can't wait to try this myself, next season, probably in Tahoe.

Most of the announcing was in French. There were so many people from all over the world carrying their countries flag.

I think the weather forecast, the night before said it was 1 or 4 degrees in Whistler that day.

U.S.A

Shaun White just won the gold!!!!!!!

Wing Stop

I decided to take a stroll by myself this afternoon, since it was so nice out and went down to the white rock pier where there was a strip of shops and restaurants. After passing several ice cream shops I was ready to run back to our place and convince everyone that we needed to get ice cream pronto. On the way back, I passed by a sign that read..39 cent wings from 9-11:45pm Mon-Thurs.

So, we all walked down to the pier and to our surprise, wings were 39 cents ALL DAY ON WEDNESDAY. yay. Thats where we were going.

Next it was off to White Mountain Ice cream for a "pooh's passion"...ice cream mixed with crispy honey bits and honey/vanilla swirl. It was all I could think about!!!!!! The shop was out of yogurt and ice cream....^%$#^&*%@!!@#. What? The rude girl at the counter said that they were out of ice. "Well where did it go?" I asked. " We only have ice summer and spring" she said.

ugh!!! Wa Wa Waaaa. That is I have to say on that. : [

Types of wings include:
Louisiana Sweet
Not so hot Buffalo
Tara Tara Tara Japanese teriyaki sesame
honey garlic

Wednesday

Watching women's downhill skiing and mens half-pipe. Go Shaun White!!!

Tomorrow is going to be a long day. It's off to our one and only event..biathlon. Getting up at 5:00 am and taking a shuttle to Whistler. The women's starts at 10 and the mens starts at 1 (3 hours each). Finally!!!!! I get to see some snow. Pics to follow probably not until Friday.

We were going to go down into downtown Vancouver again today to watch an airing of the Colbert Report but decided against it since we have to get up super early tomorrow. The Colbert Report is sponsoring the American Speed skating team.

White Rock Beach

Ok......so here are today's photos. I got a bit worried because I didn't think I could get these pics online with my backup camera....so let the blogging continue! You're going to like these.

Hello United States....How R U doing over there? See you on Friday.

Today, we decided it was going to be a relaxation day. So far, we have been running around from one place to the next, so we thought it would be best to take it easy. Since it was sunny out, we walked down to White Rock Beach just minutes from where we were staying. Unfortunately, my camera decided to die out on me, so I had to use a backup camera in which we don't have a plug for. So....here are some pics of the beach from when we first arrived.

In case you were wondering when you would actually see some Olympic events, that is to come on Thurdsay...unless of course it gets canceled. Rumor so far is that it got rescheduled for an earlier time. This is not good because we already bought shuttle tickets for the later time when it was originally scheduled for.... fingers crossed. Wish us luck!! One event already got canceled for us.

Crystal Mall

Crystal mall is an Asian mall in Vancouver. Shops consisted mostly of vitamin stores, clothes shops, electronics, candy and bakeries. For lunch, we ate at Wang's Sichuan House.

Fried pork dumplings, and wonton on soup.

Spice Island Indonesian Restaurant

Here are the pics to Spice Island as mentioned on Sunday the 14th.

Lemon Grass chicken, Spicy Beef Satay, rice, lamb curry, fried tofu, and coconut ice cream.

Charming and friendly. I would definitely recommend this place if anyone is ever in Vancouver.

sob sob : ... (

So, I just found out this morning that the women's and men's snow-bo cross event that we had tickets to tomorrow, got canceled. The event itself didn't get canceled, but for the people who bought cheap standing tickets, can no longer attend.

There just isn't enough snow in the area.

In preparation for the crowd, the standing area had snow but underneath had hay placed over mud to try to stabilized the area. However, the snow over it melted created a slushy pile of mess causing workers to sink in making large potholes.

What a disappointment.

These are EVERYWHERE.

I have seen so many of these fast food restaurants in Canada. Tim Horton's is the name and they have a huge selection of donuts plus coffee, sandwiches and breakfast sandwiches. It's hard to describe but it's a cross between McDonald's breakfast, Wendy's, Krispy Kreme and Starbucks all rolled into one. Sort of random and strange but the donuts were awesome.

I got one, I got one, I got one!!!!

I finally got my Quatchi doll today. He's one of the Olympic mascots who happens to be a cute friendly Sasquatch. As far as souvenirs go, this is the only thing that I've gotten so far.

Granville Island Part 2

Granville Island is a section of Vancouver mostly made up of artisan shops, restaurants, unique gifts and a large indoor public market place next to the water.

For dinner, we chose polish fare from a restaurant called Perogy Place. My dish included a beef cabbage roll, cheese and potato filled perogies topped with sour cream/sauerkraut and sausage.

For dessert, I chose to go to the Bread Shop for a pecan cinnamon roll, a chocolate hazelnut valentine cookie and a chocolate macaroon. The roll was a bit dry but the chocolate macaroon was excellent.

This place was packed. I could barely move around. I think I could have sauntered around the market checking out every food stand for another hour if I could.

Monday's Dinner-Indonesian food

Here is a preview for the place we are going to try out Monday night. Photos will follow on Monday.

Directions

Awash in a palette of greens and greys, this tranquil room welcomes you with hushed tones and warm, attentive service. Chef-owner Joseph Boon’s Indonesian fare is rich and flavourful, infused with Indian, Arabic, Spanish, Dutch, and Chinese influences. Martabak is a crispy, flaky variant of the beef samosa, a textural contrast to the lush softness of opor ayam, chicken in a delicate white curry. Quench your thirst with coconut water served still in the husk—with or without a shot of rum, it’ll help dial down the heat. Spekkoek with rambutan sorbet is a light, sweet way to round out your meal; also known as Lapis Legit, it’s the Indonesian take on the Dutch multilayered butter cake ($8).

Canadian's are.......(Bleep)!

The End.

Yale Town Continued...

Ok...so I couldn't fit the photo of Poutine in the last post, so here it is : )

Saturday at Yale Town

Saturday, we had to head down to a place in Vancouver called Yale Town, which is known for it's restaurants and nightlife. That is where we picked up our Olympic tickets to Women's snow-bo Cross and Biathlon.

For dinner, we went to Bar-B-Que Dix (pronounced deece; which is "10" in French).

The plate of fries is a popular Canadian dish called Poutine which is basically like chili cheese fries but with gravy on top. The one served was a southern bar-b-que variation with cheese curds, baked beans and of course gravy.

The following sandwiches ordered are:
Drunk and dirty chicken sandwich
Pulled Pork Sandwish
BBQ Beef Brisket

Yuuuuuuuuuuuummmmmmm!!!!!
